Statement from Leanne Wood for Vigil at RAF Valley

edit7.JPG

Ahead of a vigil at RAF Valley this evening following the news that Saudi combat pilots are being trained at this facility, Leanne issued the following statement:

Rwy’n falch o gydsefyll gyda chi heddiw dros heddwch ac yn erbyn hyfforddi peilotiaid Saudi Arabia yn Ynys Môn i ladd yn Yemen.

The people of Yemen are not starving, they are being starved.

The famine in Yemen is a direct result of the siege imposed on the country by the Saudi and US Governments.

And this is not a war that is being fought out by distant powers unconnected to us.

The famine would not be occurring without the arms sales, logistical support and pilot training that is happening here.

The British Government is complicit.

The Welsh Government too enthusiastically embraces the military industry, as Economy and Transport Secretary Ken Skates will be speaking at the Cardiff Arms Fair to suppliers of weapons used to cause suffering around the world.

Today we must stand in solidarity with the people of Yemen and demand that the UK government stops supporting the Saudi regime.

We must bring this suffering to an end.

We must ensure that the airfields and military bases of Wales are never again used to participate in such crimes.

Can mlynedd eleni ers diwedd y Rhyfel Mawr, er cof i’r miliynau a laddwyd yn y gyflafan erchyll honno, rhaid inni ymwrthod â militariaeth yn ein cymdeithas a rhyfel ym mhob man.

Gwrthodwn y defnydd o Gymru fel maes chwarae milwrol.

Gwrthodwn werthiant arfau llofruddiaeth yn ein prifddinas.

Gwrthodwn gyfranogaeth Llywodraeth Prydain yn rhyfeloedd ar draws y byd.

Dros heddwch. Dros Gymru.
