Plaid Cymru Leader Leanne Wood is asking people to take part in a survey to gauge the demand for extra trains between the Rhondda and Cardiff.

The Rhondda AM is collecting survey responses in the hope that a clear case can be presented to Arriva Trains Wales to provide an improved Sunday service to and from the Welsh capital.

The survey follows on from a positive meeting with senior management at Arriva Trains Wales last month where the possibility of laying on extra trains on a Sunday were considered, subject to evidence of a demand for the additional services.

The train company currently operate trains once every two hours between the Rhondda and Cardiff.

Ms Wood said: “Following on from my meeting with Tom Joyner, the Arriva Trains Wales Managing Director, and other senior management at the company, the Rhondda Plaid Cymru team has created this survey.

“I am hoping many people who use the train between Rhondda and Cardiff on the weekends take part in this short survey which will take only one minute to complete.

“If we can present a clear case that there is a demand for additional trains – whether they are earlier trains or ‘infill trains’ to make the service more frequent – we stand the best possible chance of Arriva changing their timetable.

“As a frequent user of the Valleys Line to Cardiff for work, I am often frustrated by the lack of trains. This is especially the case on a Sunday.

“If you share those frustrations, now is the chance to have your say and hopefully affect some change that will be of benefit to the Rhondda and its people.”
