Rhondda AM Leanne Wood will be hosting an event in her constituency involving influential author and human rights activist Selma James.
The event, which is sponsored by Chwarae Teg and is being held at the Workers’ Gallery in Ynyshir on Wednesday March 28th, will feature a screening of Selma’s landmark film from the 70s ‘Women of the Rhondda.’
On the agenda for discussion will be the struggle for women’s rights in the past, the present and the future.
Leanne said: “Everyone is welcome to attend the Workers’ Gallery for what promises to be an engaging evening of discussion and debate. I am thrilled that Selma James is coming to the Rhondda and will be showing her film ‘Women of the Rhondda’ which she says will be the fulfilment of a long held dream.
“She has had such a big impact on the women’s movement and the fight for basic human rights over the course of a career spanning more than six decades. It will be fascinating to hear her thoughts on how attitudes may have, or may not have changed, since she first started writing.
“This really is a one-off event so I would urge anyone interested in this to RSVP as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.”
