The AM for the Rhondda has met with her counterpart in the Welsh Youth Parliament.
Leanne Wood invited Alys Hall to her constituency office in Porth to congratulate her after topping the poll in the Rhondda constituency in the inaugural Youth Parliament of Wales. In between studying for her GCSEs at Ysgol Gyfun Cymmer, Alys intends to campaign for improved mental health support for young people and the rights of the LGBT community amongst other things.
Following the meeting, Leanne said: “I wanted to congratulate Alys for being elected as the first representative for the Rhondda in the Youth Parliament of Wales. This is some achievement; not just because of it being the historic first elections but also because the competition was tough.
“I was impressed by the strength of candidates all over Wales. This bodes well for the future of our country and our democracy. Engaging young people is vital and this is a great initiative which I hope will run and run.”
Leanne added: “In the meantime, I would like to wish Alys all the very best for her tenure as the Rhondda representative in the Youth Parliament of Wales. She is a credit to her family and her school – I’m sure they’re all proud of her.”
