Plaid Cymru’s Leanne Wood has congratulated Rhondda Radio after they won a bid to obtain a license to broadcast on the FM signal.
The station was one of nine in the UK to get the chance to go out on air on the prestigious FM signal. The plan now is for the station to broadcast on FM for the first time in the New Year but first they are looking to recruit more volunteers and secure the financial help necessary to purchase new equipment.
In the meantime, Leanne said: “It is fantastic news for us to finally get our own dedicated radio station on the FM signal here in the Rhondda. This will open up Rhondda Radio to a much wider audience.
“The station’s brand of popular music, local news and community event notices will inevitably reach more people and this can only be a big boost for the communities within the Rhondda.
“It also shows what is possible with community action and a lot of determination.
“I wish to congratulate everyone that has been involved with the station since its inception. This is the culmination of years of hard work and dedication from a loyal band of volunteers.
“I hope the community will continue to support this station. The station needs help now more than ever as it prepares to go live on the FM signal so I would urge anyone who can help out – whether in a voluntary capacity or with a financial contribution - to get in touch with the team.”
