Rhondda AM Leanne Wood has praised the efforts of volunteers involved in reopening the paddling pool in her home town.
Ms Wood said it was fantastic news for families that the much-missed facility would now be open over the summer holidays.
The opening follows months and months of hard work by a band of volunteers who set up Friends of Penygraig Park in response to the closure of the area’s paddling pool by the Labour-led council.
Ms Wood said the successful project could now be emulated in other parts of RCT where paddling pools have been closed.
“These volunteers have shown what is possible when there is a strong team in place, lots of hard work and belief,” said Ms Wood. “I am really proud of their efforts in bringing this project to fruition. Their dedication will now be a major boost for local families.
“The paddling pool will provide some free summer fun which is important when many households struggle to afford the cost of children being out of school for six weeks.
“If people power can achieve this in Penygraig, there is no reason why it cannot be done elsewhere.”
