Rhondda AM Leanne Wood has congratulated a local pub after they were given two prestigious industry awards.
The Pencelli pub in Treorci has scooped the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) Pub of the Year 2017 for Mid Glamorgan. They also collected the Cider and Perry Pub of the Year 2017 for Mid Glamorgan.
It is not the first time that the pub, which is run by husband and wife Neil and Mary Fisher, has been re cognised by CAMRA. Last year, just 18 months after reopening, they became the first pub in the Rhondda to be named CAMRA’s Pub of the Year for Mid Glamorgan.
Ms Wood, who is a member of CAMRA, said: “This award is fully justified for all the hard work that Neil, Mary and all their family have put in to turn the Pencelli around. They have created a warm and welcoming atmosphere in the pub which has become an important part of the local community.
“The fact that there is usually a good crowd of people in there speaks for itself. As a fan of real ale, I always look forward to visiting to see what they selection have on behind the bar. Often, it is something like local like the fantastic Cwm Rhondda Ales, brewed just up the road of Fforch Farm.
“I wish the Fisher family all the very best for the future. I’m sure more awards will be coming their way if they keep doing what they’re doing.”
