Open Letter to Vaughan Gething AM - Minister for Health

Open Letter to Vaughan Gething AM - Minister for Health from Rhondda residents

Llythyr Agored at Vaughan Gething AC - Y Gweinidog Iechyd gan drigolion Rhondda

Dear Health Minister,

We note the vote that took place in the Senedd on 12th February 2020 which showed that the democratic will of our elected representatives is to retain a 24-hour, consultant-led A&E department at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital.

We would like to emphasise that those of us who live in the Rhondda will have further to travel in a life threatening emergency if the proposals are realised.

We also note the difficulty that Cwm Tâf Health Board have faced in recruiting suitable consultants. We contend that their job is being hindered by the decision taken in 2014 to reconfigure A&E services as part of the South Wales Programme.

We call on you as Health Minister to intervene as a matter of urgency. We call on you to support the Health Board to recruit the necessary professional staff to ensure a safe and sustained 24-hour consultant-led service at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital by removing the aspects of the South Wales Programme which relate to the downgrading of A&E services there.

An announcement from you indicating your support for the continuation of the current service will provide the certainty that is lacking and hampering recruitment efforts. We would also like to see you as Welsh Government directly support the Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board recruitment process.

Annwyl Weinidog

Rydym yn nodi’r bleidlais a gynhaliwyd yn y Senedd ar 12 Chwefror 2020 a ddangosodd mai ewyllys democrataidd ein cynrychiolwyr etholedig yw cadw adran frys 24-awr dan arweiniad meddygon ymgynghorol yn Ysbyty Brenhinol Morgannwg.

Hoffem bwysleisio y bydd gan y rhai ohonom sy'n byw yn y Rhondda ymhellach i deithio mewn argyfwng sy'n bygwth bywyd os gwireddir y cynigion.

Rydym hefyd yn nodi’r anhawster a wynebodd Bwrdd Iechyd Cwm Tâf i recriwtio meddygon ymgynghorol addas. Credwn fod eu gwaith yn cael ei rwystro gan y penderfyniad a gymerwyd yn 2014 i ail-ffurfio gwasanaethau brys fel rhan o Raglen De Cymru.

Galwn arnoch chi fel Gweinidog Iechyd i ymyrryd fel mater o frys. Galwn arnoch i gefnogi’r Bwrdd Iechyd i recriwtio’r staff proffesiynol angenrheidiol i sicrhau gwasanaeth diogel estynedig 24-awr dan arweiniad meddygon ymgynghorol yn Ysbyty Brenhinol Morgannwg trwy dynnu allan agweddau o Raglen De Cymru sy’n ymwneud ag israddio gwasanaethau’r adran frys yno.

Byddai cyhoeddiad gennych chi yn dangos eich cefnogaeth i barhau â’r gwasanaeth presennol yn rhoi’r sicrwydd nad yw’n bod ar hyn o bryd ac sy’n rhwystro ymdrechion i recriwtio. Hoffem hefyd eich gweld fel Llywodraeth Cymru yn cefnogi proses recriwtio Bwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Cwm Tâf Morgannwg yn uniongyrchol.

We need 24 hour care in A&E at Royal Glamorgan to ensure residents of Rhondda, Llantrisant and Pontypridd stay safe – journeying to either PCH or PoW will certainly risk lives in emergencies, plus the additional journeys will impact severely on the carbon footprint of the CTMHB area (the UK and Welsh governments are supposedly trying to reduce our footprints so making 65000 people a year travel further will negate any savings that are made elsewhere)
