Policies proposed by Leanne Wood in her document ‘The Rhondda’s Next Step’ could boost the local economy by more than £200m every year.
Leanne, who is standing as the Plaid Cymru candidate in the Rhondda, has called for the creation of a development agency in the Rhondda, an eBike manufacturing facility and a jobs guarantee for young people. The policies amount to the creation of 1500 new jobs.
Leanne has also pledged to set up a cancer diagnosis centre in the Rhondda if Plaid Cymru form the next government of Wales.
The multiplier effect of the various job creation policies has been estimated as providing a boost to the local economy of up to £212,678,000 per annum.
Leanne said: “These policies can and will have a dramatic impact on the Rhondda if they are implemented. We need radical action to reverse our decline and recover from the effects of the pandemic on our community.
“We have had 22 years of Labour leading the Welsh Government – it is now time to try and different approach. There is nothing inevitable about the Rhondda’s poverty and I hope to be in a position to demonstrate that after the election on May 6th.”
