Rhondda AM Leanne Wood has congratulated a local school after the talents of their choir were sought out by a major retailer for their Christmas ad campaign.
M&S enlisted the superlative voices of Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Llwyncelyn from Porth to sing on their flagship festive advert featuring TV stars Paddy McGuinness and Emma Willis. The choir sing a reworking of Fleetwood Mac’s Albatross.
It has been reported that the song will be played at least once an hour in every M&S store and that millions of people will watch the advert on television over the coming weeks.
It is the latest in a line of achievements in the last two years for the choir after they scooped the top prize at the Urdd Eisteddfod and won the BBC Songs of Praise Young Choir of the Year competition.
“Once again, Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Llwyncelyn are putting the Rhondda on the map and we are very proud of them,” said Ms Wood. “The sound they create in unison is breath-taking so it is not surprising that the directors of a multi-million pound ad campaign came calling.
“Obviously there is a lot of natural talent in the school’s choir but the sound they make is also down to hours and hours of hard work and determination from the pupils and teachers, not forgetting supportive parents.
“I look forward to hearing Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Llwyncelyn over and over again this Christmas.”
