Health Care - Leanne Wood - Rhondda Plaid Cymru

Save Our Local Health Services

The removal of consultants from the Royal Glamorgan Hospital in Llantrisant has galvanised people from all parts of Rhondda Cynon Taf.

Thousands marched against the downgrading of the Accident & Emergency, Maternity and Paediatric departments, people attended consultation meetings and filled in forms to protest against the proposal.

Despite this, people were ignored and the Labour Government’s centralisation plans went through.  Fears that the Royal Glamorgan Hospital would be allowed to run down appear to be coming to fruition.  Leanne Wood has recently uncovered ward closures and temporary bed losses as a result of staff shortages which might indicate the shape of things to come.

The story has led to a number of health professionals coming forward to reveal how services have deteriorated within the Royal Glamorgan Hospital due to staff shortages and how morale has been damaged.

Given that Labour has been in charge of the health service in Wales since 1999, they must take responsibility for what is happening.  Plaid Cymru can show that there is another way.

Leanne said: "Plaid Cymru has unveiled a series of proposals to strengthen our health service.  The recruitment of 1,000 extra doctors over ten years would ensure we are no longer lagging behind the rest of the UK when it comes to the number of doctors per head of the population.

"We also want to establish new diagnostic centres to establish a 28-day waiting time for diagnoses of serious conditions.  Waiting lists for diagnostic tests in Wales are much longer than elsewhere.

"We want to reverse Labour’s damaging centralisation agenda and deliver a substantial investment in our health service.  Most of this is possible with a change of Government in Wales so please support Plaid Cymru at the Assembly election next May."

If you are opposed to Labour’s centralisation agenda and want to see the kind of investment in doctors, diagnostic centres and the provision of rare drugs and treatment that Plaid Cymru proposes, please sign the petition below and have your say.
