Rhondda AM Leanne Wood has congratulated RCT’s newest councillor following a big swing to Plaid Cymru in a local by-election.
Plaid Cymru’s Eleri Griffiths was elected with 42% of the vote in a by-election for the Rhondda ward on the local authority. The ward covers a number of communities such as Hopkinstown and Trehafod within the Pontypridd constituency where it borders with the Rhondda constituency.
The seat was last held by Plaid Cymru in 2004.
Ms Wood said: “I wish to congratulate Eleri and the campaign team behind her for running an excellent campaign. It was a campaign that was determined, positive and a pleasure to take part in.
“From seeing Eleri up close on the campaign trail, it is clear that she will have the necessary work ethic and empathy to make an excellent representative for everyone living in the Rhondda ward.
“I want to thank the people that supported her and placed their trust in her at the ballot box. I have no doubt that she will do them all proud.”
