An auction featuring prestigious art has been organised to raise money for Rhondda MS Leanne Wood’s re-election campaign. Among the 14 lots organised by Plaid Cymru in the Rhondda include a painting by the world-renowned artist Kevin Sinnott entitled ‘Early study for ‘Liebestod.’
The work of various Rhondda-based artists are also featured, along with some photographic prints by the music artist Ani Glass who won Welsh Language Album of the Year 2020 with Mirores.
A guided walk in the Rhondda hills by Leanne Wood and a piece of her own artwork is also among the items people can bid on between 7pm and 9pm on March 12th. From the proceeds raised on the nigh , 10% of the money will be donated to the food share project Leanne set up which delivers food parcels to people across the Rhondda largely using surplus supermarket produce.
Leanne said: “There’s some unique items in this forthcoming election and absolutely incredible art up for grabs. We have some incredible artistic talent on display here. The items donated will help us raise money for our election fund. I am grateful to all of the artists and everyone else who generously gave to this auction including Ani Glass who has played at a Plaid Cymru election launch party in the Rhondda when we weren’t under such restrictions.
“Having the work of internationally acclaimed artist like Kevin Sinnott among the lots also means there could well be interest from far afield in the bidding.
“I hope as many people as possible can join us on the night and raise some money to put us on a fairer footing with rival political parties with much wealthier connections than we have.”
