Care for the elderly is under threat. Please sign the petition // Mae gofal i'r henoed dan fygythiad. Arwyddwch y ddeiseb

We, the undersigned call on Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council to halt their proposals to reduce the number of Council-run Residential Care Homes and Day Centres.  The Council's plan to "modernise" care for the elderly by transferring it to the private sector is unacceptable and is out of accord with the principle of a publicly funded Health and Social Care Service.

We further call on the Welsh Government to implement a Wales wide care strategy for the elderly to ensure that the standard of care is not determined by where you happen to live.

Rydym ni sydd wedi arwyddo isod yn galw ar Gyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Rhondda Cynon Taf i roi’r gorau i’r bwriad o leihau’r nifer o Gartrefi Gofal a Chanolfannau Dydd. Mae cynllun y cyngor i ‘foderneiddio’ gofal i’r henoed trwy ei drosglwyddo i’r sector breifat yn annerbyniol ac yn groes i’r egwyddor o wasanaeth iechyd a gofal wedi ei ariannu’n gyhoeddus.

Rydym bellach yn galw ar Lywodraeth Cymru i gyflwyno strategaeth Genedlaethol o ofal i’r henoed i sicrhau nad mater o lwc eich lleoliad sy’n penderfynu safon y gofal.

Residential and day care should remain under council control where it would continue as a not for profit concern. Private companies have profits to consider and it is possible that care could be compromised. However strapped-for-cash a council purports to be, this action is unacceptable. We need more care facilities, not less.

We have personal knowledge of this particular care home as my 96 year old father-in-law uses it regularly, especially for meals. It’s a vital link for the elderly in the locality, and helps him to maintain his independence.

Closing this well used facility is an absolute travesty. How can RCT justify not having one Day Centre for the elderly and disabled left in the Rhondda. I always wonder who is in charge of handling our money because it is our Council Tax that they are spending and often wasting for example whose decision was it to paint that ridiculous cycle path on Gelli Industrial Est. I could name many more instances where money could be better spent but would be here all day.

The centre is a life line for many of the elderly people who live in and around gelli. It’s absolutely disgusting that the council are closing it!!!

I have signed this and very reluctantly chosen U.K. as my country of origin. Just to let you know, I purchase yarn online from Kemps Wool, a business in England who include Wales on their drop down menu. If they can offer this, why can’t Plaid Cymru? Siomedig iawn!

I’m totally against the closure of residential homes for the elderly in RCT. I live in the fach where the local authority have just one residential home in Ferndale. This home has excelllent care, the residents are generally local to the area which is really important to their quality of life. What elderly person would choose to stay in a home whereby they know very little of that area, possibly know nobody at the home. I’m all for change in the future but. The residents that are currently in these homes have put down roots and some have made their rooms homely and personal to them. Please let them live out their days in peace
