Reacting to the news that Cwm Taf University Health Board chief executive Allison Williams has gone on long-term sick leave, Rhondda AM Leanne Wood said: “I fear that a new interim chief executive will only paper over the cracks that have been laid bare by the recent scandal at the maternity services department.
“The endemic problems that run deep will not be solved overnight or by replacing one person. It is disingenuous, although convenient, for some Labour politicians to suggest that replacing the chief executive is the magic bullet.
“Under staffed departments, poor morale, bad workforce planning by successive Labour Health Ministers and a failed experiment in hospital centralisation by this Labour Government have all combined to create the current situation.
“Until there is a Welsh Government that acknowledges responsibility, shows leadership and engages in a proactive recruitment campaign to address the low staffing numbers, then little progress will be made.”
