Crown Carveries

I am signing this petition as I would like to call on Crown Carveries to change the name of the ‘Lord Tonypandy’ pub.

 Aberfan.JPG

The Aberfan disaster killed 116 children and 28 adults, and a series of recently aired Aberfan 50th anniversary programmes has clearly shown the scandalous part Lord Tonypandy played, in his role as Secretary of State for Wales, in using the disaster appeal fund money to clean up the Aberfan tips. This was an unforgivable and cruel act against the people and community of Aberfan.

Fifty years may have passed but feelings still run strong.  I no longer want the Rhondda to be associated with the name of Lord Tonypandy.

Tell us what YOU think the pub should be called. Use the comments box below, and we'll run a vote to find the most popular.

I fully support your views on the disgraceful actions Lord Tonypandy took in regards of using the monies from the Aberfan disaster fund to remove the coal tip.

I would like the name of Eddie Thomas to be considered for the new name. He was a local boxer and boxing manager who was later mayor of Merthyr Council. He and his company were working near Aberfan at the time of the disaster, and he supplied equipment and men to help in the rescue and recovery. He also championed the voice of the people of Aberfan after the disaster.

The people of the Rhondda are embarrassed by the despicable part played by George Thomas after the Aberfan Disaster. It’s also embarrassing to think this man was made a Lord. I would like the Lord Tonypandy renamed something in honour of Tommy Farr, who was a true Rhondda hero.
