Rhondda MS Leanne Wood said: “This yet more concerning news for the Rhondda. We have already suffered some major coal tip slippages in the last twelve months with the one in Tylorstown being the most serious.
“This latest move is further evidence as to the dangerous state of our industrial scars – scars that should have been dealt with a long time ago.
“The fact that houses and a busy road are within close proximity of this unsafe coal tip in Wattstown is bound to cause alarm.
“This underlines the need to ensure all the communities that lie in the shadow of coal tip spoils are made safe. We are told to expect more extreme weather because of the climate crisis and so what may have been deemed safe decades ago will not be safe anymore.”
