Leanne Wood has thanked everyone who donated food and hygiene products to an appeal to make hampers for the homeless.
The Rhondda AM said the kindness of some people was incredible in what was the biggest collection at her constituency office in Porth in the three years she has been supporting the appeal.
The goods were used to make up more than 100 hampers and more than 100 gift bags which will were distributed in time for Christmas by the charity Adref who support homeless men, women and children in RCT and Merthyr. The charity also donated a quantity of toys to children who are homeless or in housing need.
Leanne said: “I was very happy with the response to this year’s hamper for the homeless appeal. Many people are struggling yet a lot of people donated to help people in a worse situation than themselves.
“It is a disgrace that so many people are homeless in Wales. Everyone should have a home. Until the problem is solved, charities like Adref and the generosity of everyday people will be invaluable.
“Many homeless people – including children – will now get a lovely Christmas surprise thanks to the kindness of strangers. That is heart-warming and shows that the Rhondda has some incredibly compassionate people.”
