Rhondda AM Leanne Wood has welcomed a valleys teenager to the National Assembly for Wales for work experience.
The Penygraig-based Leader of Plaid Cymru hosted Taome Edwards-Fernon for a week of work experience at her office in Cardiff Bay and her constituency office in Porth.
During the week, Taome - a 17-year-old pupil from Church Village studying A-Levels at Ysgol Gyfun Garth Olwg - conducted research for assembly members and attended First Minister’s Questions in the Senedd. She also accompanied Leanne during an Assembly event on youth work.
Ms Wood said: “It was a pleasure to have Taome in the office for a week of work experience. She was helpful, professional and hard-working throughout the week. She was a credit to her parents and to her school.”
She added: “It is great to see young people like Taome showing an interest in politics. For a long time we have heard that young people are not interested in politics and are turned off by debates.
“Recent years have shown that there is a great appetite among the younger generations to get involved with politics and cast their vote.
“Trends like this, and meeting pupils like Taome, fill me with hope that young people will continue to get involved in politics and that democracy will be in good hands in the future.”
