Dear Chris,

I wanted to take the opportunity to wish you, the backroom staff and all the players in the national team squad the very best of luck ahead of the European Championships.  By qualifying for this tournament, you’ve raised the spirits of our nation.  You’ve made history and ensured the footballing world sits up and takes notice of our country.

Within Wales, you’ve inspired a new generation of young people to take up football as they now have a new set of role models to aspire to.  The impact of your work on the grassroots level of the game is impossible to overstate.  At the other end of the age-range, you’ve paid back the long-term loyalty of many football fans who are now able to support their team in a major championship for the first time in their lives.  They will be following you every step of the way in France on this exciting journey and will be willing you on with all of the energy they have.

You’ve achieved so much already, but knowing this team’s positive, never-say-die attitude, we know that you’re not going to France just to make up the numbers.  You’ve upset the odds just by qualifying, so you can do it again and reach the knock-out stages where you can really make your mark on the tournament.

Once again, pob lwc Tîm Cymru!  A nation watches, and waits.  Ymlaen!

Yours sincerely,

Leanne Wood AM, Plaid Cymru Leader
