The Welsh Government needs to take a strategic lead as the steel crisis continues to take a hold on Wales, the Plaid Cymru leader Leanne Wood has said.
Leanne Wood said that the First Minister called for actions from the UK Government in order to secure the future of the industry, but failed to outline any meaningful action that his own government would take.
Plaid Cymru has continued to put forward positive solutions to help secure the future of the steel industry in Wales.
Responding to the First Minister’s statement on Tata Steel, the Party of Wales leader Leanne Wood said:
“Firstly, I want steelworkers and their families to know that Plaid Cymru will not give up on them – we will continue to be the party that provides positive solutions to the current crisis.
“In terms of the Labour Welsh Government’s response, it is disappointing that the action the First Minister called for today, did not involve any decisive moves on his own part. There is little confidence that the UK Government will provide a solution. We need to hear what the Welsh Government’s plan is. That was not forthcoming this afternoon.
“His government looks more like a pressure group when it should take a strategic lead.
“The Party of Wales reiterates its position that a public stake should be taken in the industry now to get the industry through the current storm and to safeguard jobs and communities. We all must pull together to ensure this vital industry has a future.”
