Plaid Cymru Leader Leanne Wood has called for the Welsh football team to take an open-top tour of the country after their achievements in the European Championships.
The Rhondda AM said win or lose in the semi-final, Chris Coleman’s team and backroom staff had done the nation proud and deserved big recognition.
She said it was important that people got the opportunity to show their support for the team that has defied the odds through “hard work, sharing an unbreakable bond and daring to dream.”
“This Welsh football team has united the nation with their team spirit, passion and confidence,” said Ms Wood.
“They didn’t go to France to make up the numbers; they went to France to win it. That’s been clear to see from the way they have played without fear throughout this tournament.
“They have overcome the bookies odds through hard work, sharing an unbreakable bond and daring to dream. That is an example for us all. They have made us believe that anything is possible.
“Let’s make sure we all have a chance to say ‘diolch’ to the squad, the management and backroom staff and all at the FAW for the work they’ve done in putting Wales on a global stage.
“They have ignited the passion of old football fans and created new followers of the game. I’m sure there will be thousands wanting to show their gratitude for what they have done for the nation.”
